Scientific Seminar at the University of Basra on the Effect of Basil Leaf Extract on Induced Diabetes

The University of Basra, College of Education in Al-Qurna, organized a scientific seminar examining the impact of active compounds in the hot aqueous extract of basil leaves on several hematological, biochemical, and histological parameters in male rats with induced diabetes. The study was presented by Master’s student Noor Al-Huda Nadhim Abdullah, who focused on identifying the primary active compounds present in the hot aqueous extract of basil and analyzing their physiological effects after inducing diabetes using Alloxan, while monitoring the therapeutic response to the extract over specific time intervals.

Furthermore, the study aimed to evaluate the toxic effects of Alloxan on blood and biochemical markers as well as histological changes, while demonstrating the potential of basil extract to improve these parameters and reduce the damage caused by oxidative stress associated with diabetes. This research is part of ongoing scientific efforts to explore natural alternatives and their role in supporting traditional treatments for diabetes, effectively opening new research horizons in the fields of pathophysiology and phytotherapy.
